The Role 💡

Recharge is looking for an ambitious and experienced Senior or Staff Mobile Apps Engineer to join our historic transformation as we build a new platform from the ground up. You will work on expanding our strategic future of the company: cross-platform mobile apps. We’re evolving into a product and technology-led organisation, serving millions of users around the globe and processing more than $500m in GMV. What will I do? 🤔

• Driving technical design and best practices among the engineering group along with Principal Engineers, while partnering with Product Management and Design

• Developing and maintaining high-quality, reliable software with a strong focus on automation and cloud solutions

• Handling complex tasks independently, ensuring consistent delivery with minimal issues

• Enhancing and enforcing Recharge's standard frameworks and policies, fostering understanding and adoption across the team

• Conducting code reviews and pair programming to support the production of clean, quality code

• Advocating and implementing DevOps practices to streamline the product development lifecycle

• Participating in the support rota for out-of-hours technical assistance

• Contributing to and leading product group objectives, mentoring less experienced engineers, and fostering a culture of learning and improvement

• Focusing on software development metrics, continuously seeking improvement

• Actively participating in product planning, roadmap development, and promoting innovative approaches

What You Have 💪🏻

• Strong expertise in React Native, with deep experience building performant cross-platform mobile applications released on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

• Ability to contribute to system architecture and design decisions, while applying industry best practices to build scalable, high-performance, and maintainable mobile applications.

• Expertise in state management and data handling on the front end, including building robust features with Redux and consuming GraphQL APIs.

• Familiarity with back-end development (Node.js, NestJS, GraphQL) to effectively integrate with server-side services. 

• Quality-focused mindset – writing clean, maintainable code and ensuring thorough testing using frameworks like Jest (unit tests) and Maestro (end-to-end UI tests).

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and mobile DevOps, including GitHub Actions for automated builds, code-push for over-the-air updates, and Firebase Analytics for monitoring app performance and user engagement.

• Demonstrated mentorship skills – guiding and coaching junior developers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.

• Understanding of native mobile development for iOS/Android (Swift/Objective-C and Kotlin/Java) to handle occasional platform-specific code or debugging tasks.

• A strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a self-sufficient approach to problem-solving and delivering features end-to-end.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of working closely with a Staff Engineer (Tech Lead), product managers, and designers to deliver great products.

• Enthusiasm for the FinTech domain – experience or interest in areas like mobile top-ups, digital gift cards, or prepaid credit services, enabling you to quickly grasp our product context and user needs.
