This role plays a crucial part in designing, implementing, and validating robust, scalable, and high-performance software solutions for Android devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide leadership on technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and support both software engineering and quality assurance efforts—especially for Android environments requiring multidevice support and peripheral configuration and setup.<h3>What You'll Do</h3><ul><li>Design, develop, and implement complex Android software solutions using Kotlin, ensuring high quality, scalability, and performance. </li><li>Contribute to system architecture and design decisions for Android apps, supporting short-term goals and long-term growth. </li><li>Provide technical guidance for both development and QA initiatives. Take ownership of complex projects and ensure timely delivery of high-quality code and solutions. </li><li>Establish and enforce best practices for software design, coding, testing, and deployment. Perform regular code reviews to maintain codebase standards. </li><li>Create, manage, and execute detailed test cases and test plans for Android apps, covering functionality, performance, and device compatibility. </li><li>Support and execute testing across multiple Android devices, including setup, debugging, and troubleshooting with various peripherals (e.g., sensors, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB). </li><li>Collaborate closely with product owners, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure features meet business and user requirements. </li><li>Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations for Android apps. </li><li>Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth. </li><li>Participate in all phases of the development lifecycle, including sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and release planning. </li><li>Provide expertise in debugging complex issues (preproduction and production), including device and peripheral-specific problems, and implement effective solutions. </li><li>Stay current with the latest technologies and trends in Android development and QA. </li><li>Propose innovative solutions that align with business goals and improve system efficiency and product quality. </li><li>Ensure all software and QA processes are thoroughly documented (code comments, technical docs, test plans, test cases). </li><li>Perform related duties as assigned to support team objectives and organizational priorities. </li></ul><h3>What You'll Bring</h3><ul><li>Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience and training.  </li><li>4-7 years of combined software development and quality assurance experience.  </li><li>At least 3 years of professional experience developing for Android devices </li><li>Extensive experience in Kotlin for Android development </li><li>Hands-on QA experience including Test Plan Creation and Test Case Management </li><li>Experience supporting testing on multiple Android devices, including support for USB devices and Wi-Fi direct </li><li>Strong debugging experience using information from logs, Crashlytics, and code debuggers </li><li>Familiarization with largescale systems, monolith architecture, distributed systems, microservices architectures, and implementing design patterns that scale.  </li><li>Expertise with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MS SQL Server) and a solid understanding of database design and optimization techniques.  </li><li>Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and knowledge of cloud-native architecture, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).  </li><li>Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible), and DevOps best practices.  </li><li>Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and test-driven development (TDD). Experience with automated testing frameworks.  </li><li>Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, contributing to sprints and delivering iterative software releases.  </li><li>Ability to guide and influence teams, craft high-level technical proposals, and be an active part of the engineering management process.  </li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues quickly and effectively.  </li></ul>Impress Us With<ul><li>Experience with Android front-end frameworks and building dynamic user interfaces.  </li><li>Experience designing or working with API’s, API based architecture such as microservices, and API Management tools.  </li><li>Knowledge of additional programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, React Native)  </li><li>Experience in applying security best practices in software design, coding, and infrastructure.  </li><li>Proficiency in identifying performance bottlenecks and optimizing Android apps for high performance and scalability.  </li><li>Experience with leveraging AI tooling in development workflows. </li></ul>This position requires security clearances due to the nature of our work with public safety agencies. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must successfully obtain and maintain a Reliability security clearance from the Government of Canada. Additionally, candidates must comply with the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and pass a comprehensive, fingerprint-based background check.
